Day 2 - It’s Not What You Give Up, But What You GAIN

Let’s talk about Sergeant Will Smith. Although I don’t know Will personally, my partner told me he’s a total nightmare. A few days later, I have the “privilege” of working a scene Sgt Smith and sure enough, he was a nightmare. But is he really that bad? Or did my expectation of what he would be like skew my true impression of him?

Today we are talking about how expectations can make a huge difference in your experience – actually in any experience. But as we are just beginning this particular challenge, I ask you to trust me when I say - you’ll gain SO much more if you can expect great things! After all, if you’re committed to doing this, you may as well do it with a positive outlook. In fact, neuroscience confirms that how you look at a situation not only determines how you feel about a situation but also influences the actual outcome. That means that the attitude and beliefs that you approach any situation with are the most important thing. Have you ever completed something with a terrible attitude and when it was all over and done with, you wish you could go back and have a better mindset? Let’s avoid that here.

Today, the video gave a few tips on how to start to do this, starting with language. We need to examine and discuss language and how powerful it is when we speak kindly to ourselves rather than destructively. Altering the way we talk to ourselves can be life-changing and eye-opening and allow you to see the world from a whole new perspective, not just with drinking but your whole world view.
